The New Mestiza

Inspired by Gloria Anzaldúa’s book Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza and Latinofuturist aesthetics; The New Mestiza explores cyborg-consciousness and what “mestiza consciousness” looks like.

What we consider latino aesthetics and identity are a result of colonial violence. As such, mestizo kids are the cyborgs of indigenous technologies and colonial traditions.

“We revise reality by altering our consensual agreements about what is real, what is just and fair. We can trans-shape reality by changing our perspectives and perceptions. By choosing a different future, we bring it into being” -Gloria Anzaldúa

Viva la raza, viva la mestizaje.
